Secondary School Sport Sanctioning

Our secondary school sport sanctioning guidelines provide event organisers with clear, high-level guidance to help plan and deliver successful sporting events, ensuring all young people receive a quality sporting experience, regardless of the level at which they participate.

Balance is Better

Sport New Zealand developed the Balance is Better philosophy to prioritise the needs of young athletes. This framework, stemming from the Sport New Zealand Talent Plan 2016-2020, aims to enhance the sporting system and help athletes realise their potential during their development phase.

The Balance is Better philosophy focuses on “why” young people play sport— to have fun, be challenged, develop and improve, be part of a team or group, and enjoy time with friends.

School Sport New Zealand

School Sport New Zealand is the sports service organisation that coordinates, promotes, and protects secondary school sports for all students.

It has been established by schools to act as guardian of the heritage and values of secondary school sport and to deliver leadership and support for all involved in providing sport to secondary schools and their students. It represents and is accountable to every New Zealand secondary school and to all students.

You can find national data, national events, accommodation, travel and notices on their website.
